The past two weeks we have been hard at work producing an item database for FFXIV: ARR. The 1.0 database has now been replaced with a fully functional database for FFXIV: A Realm Reborn. It even has more features.
The normal features are all there; filtering, sorting and searching. The search box is on almost every page of the website at the top as we feel this is that important, but from individual pages you can search within that section of the database. You also have the tooltips which display the full item information and individual comment pages.
We are very interested in which items drop in which dungeons as we can put together loot lists, but the drops could well be shuffled around in phase 4 or launch as happened from phase 2 to 3. Please comment on items and let us know where they are found.
Special Features
We have added some special commands to the search bar at the top of the website. If you type in the following phrases you will get special searches.
relic – List of all relic weapons.
darklight – List of all darklight gear.
primal – List of primal weapons.
af – List of AF gear.
uldah – List of Ul’dah Grand Company gear.
limsa – List of Limsa Lominsa Grand Company gear.
gridania – List of Gridania Grand Company gear.
luminary – List of the best crafting tools.
A few things to note:
We admit that the database is not perfect as it is missing some of the more obscure items that people tend not to use. But we feel it documents 99.9% of the items that you and I care about. As it is not 100% it will remain a work in progress.
- Consumables (food and medicine) have not yet been updated. This is a priority and we aim to update them during the next beta test that starts tomorrow. We will edit this post once it has been updated.
- Dated items have been stripped out as they can no longer be obtained or created.
- All crafting materials and item categories that have been removed from the game have been removed from the database.
- Crafting materials new to FFXIV: ARR (if any) are not yet listed.
- There are no fishing tools, because the fishing class is not yet in the beta.
Please report any bugs and feature requests on the forums.
Site Navigation
On an unrelated note, we are planning to completely redesign the site navigation. It doesn’t work on touch screens, which is simply unacceptable in 2013. This is something we didn’t think about when designing the current one back in 2009 as smartphone usage was just taking off and tablets were almost unheard of. Technology sure does move fast. The plan is to replace the dropdown menu with a mega dropdown style navigation with no right side menus and the category links will be clickable on touch screens. This is the next big project in the coming week or two.
