Just Launched! New version of FFXIV Info
This week we’ve been hard at work redesigning parts of the website to make it more functional and easier to navigate, especially for our growing mobile users. Previously a mobile user could not navigate the dropdown menu but this has been fixed with the new mega dropdown menu and the help of some JQuery. Mobile users will be able to click the category headers to open the sub menus. It has been tested on Android but since I do not own an Apple or Windows mobile device it has not been tested on these platforms. It should work however.
Along with this we decided to move the menu to the top of the site as this too is better for mobile users and is becoming more common on websites these days. To accommodate this we had to move things around a little and took the opportunity to create a new header graphic featuring the dragon from Brayflox’s Longstop.
The member section navigation has been merged with the main nav now too. It just makes sense to have one site-wide nav. These features are now displayed under the run icon in the far right. This is just a taster of what is available inside:
This has existed since 1.0 launch but now is the time to convince people to use it and add more features. It will link into the Lodestone for achievements, progression etc. Got a feature suggestion? Post it in the forums.
New content has been added as well:
Class pages now include the level 15 and 30 quested abilities.
Class pages now include cross class abilities.
There now exists a page explaining attributes.
There is now a site wide search box.
The item database has been restructured to better fit FFXIV: A Realm Reborn item categories. The 1.0 database was based on the market ward setup and as you’ve probably noticed the market boards in ARR are different, so we used these new categories as a rough guide. This means less pages over all. To fit everything on we split the database into equipment and items. The extra room allowed us to add the special parameter searches to the nav.
As a side note we are aware the ads are ugly but they are an unfortunate necessity for a hobby website like this, they keep the servers running. We have a little donation button whereby if you donate you can be upgraded to a Premium member which eliminates the ads.
It has been a long month bringing you guys one of the best FFXIV: ARR websites around so now it is time to relax for a few days and enjoy the end of beta phase 3. After that work will continue.
